Coach Ted's inaugural year of 2016 was a big success.  Coaching the Varsity to a winning record in the clubs first year, Coach Ted also led the boys through victory all the way to penalty kicks (aka overtime) against the defending 2015 State and National Champs, the LA Dragons.  But the second year with the Heat was even better, winning the Michigan State Cup and leading the Heat to become State Champions.  In 2018, the Heat became repeat State Champs under Ted’s coaching and were second in the nation, losing in penalty kicks in the championship game.

Coach Ted has been playing soccer since a young age and has been passionate about the game his entire life. Beginning in middle school and continuing throughout his schooling years, he was actively recruited by and played for traveling premier clubs, competing in high-level tournaments throughout the country. During the school year, he also played for his high school, winning numerous team and all-area awards.

Ted has been coaching soccer at various levels for the past 16 years. His overall record with the Heat is 52-20-6 with 10 of those losses occurring in the inaugural year of the club.  He looks forward to racking up more wins in the 2019 season.

While coaching, Coach Jones emphasizes fundamentals while forging unity within his team. Above all else, he focuses on helping his team develop Christ-like character both on and off the field.

Coach Jon was an instrumental factor in both successful 2016 and 2017 seasons and has high aspirations for 2018.  Coach Jon has been playing soccer for as long as he can remember. He played goalkeeper for several years in high school. He attended Olivet College, where he played defense and goalkeeper on their soccer team. And as an adult, Jon continues to play soccer year-round, on a few competitive and several recreational leagues. His goal is and always has been to help as many people as possible to learn and enjoy the “beautiful game”.

Jon has his “E” coach license and has coached many age groups from Kindergarten through Junior High. He has coached for the YMCA, Northwest Screaming Eagles, and for SCOR. He also runs goalie training sessions for both Junior High and High School (JV) and has assisted at several soccer camps. He is very excited to be teaming up with Coach Ted and looks forward to learning from his experience. He says, “I appreciate Ted’s coaching philosophy and approach, and I really look forward to assisting and watching as your students grow into Godly young men this season, both on and off the field.”

Coach Scott is honored to officially join the coaching staff at the Heat in 2019.  After playing soccer at a young age, Scott pursued other sports but rediscovered a passion for the game when he first volunteered to coach soccer with AYSO almost 10 years ago.  Realizing he was starting from scratch, he decided to be a student of the game by studying books and consuming countless videos and podcasts then spending time on the field learning the techniques for himself in order to effectively train his players from U6 to U11.  This approach paid off as he was sought out as one of the three inaugural coaches for AYSO United where he promoted his teams through two divisions in three seasons.  He also earned his U.S. Soccer E License in 2018. Scott is especially grateful for Coach Ted’s spiritual leadership and looks forward to working with Curt to strengthen the JV team and prepare the boys for higher levels of play.
